Welcome to the Purley Literary Society.

The Purley Literary Society, affectionately known as 'Purley Lit,' started in 1901, and has being running continuously except for the war years - and the recent pandemic.

The 2023 - 2024 season is our 110th programme.

Change of venue from October 2023...

We have moved to the Philippi Lounge, Christ Church
which lies between 861 and 863 Brighton Road, Purley, CR8 2BN.

Due to the success of the move, we are fast reaching the capacity of the room, and we have had to freeze membership as of 5th November 2023.

In order to give members priority over visitors for seats, we are adopting this policy:

from 19:30 until 19:50, only members will be admitted (tickets to be shown),
after that time, visitors will be admitted if space permits.
Note that for the AGM meeting on 19th March 2024, these times will be 30 minutes earlier.

What do we do?

The Society engages guest speakers to present talks on a variety of topics, usually illustrated.
Meetings are held fortnightly on Tuesdays at 8pm from October to March, and last about an hour, followed by questions and answers.

Thanks to the work of a couple of loyal supporters, we now have a presence on Social Media.

The AGM

Our final session of the 2023 - 2024 season, on 19th March, will start with a brief AGM, at the earlier time of 7:30pm
It will be followed shortly after 8pm by the last talk: "Edward Lear, the Artist," by Mark Lewis.

Membership is closed for the time being.

Our current fees are:

the entire Autumn and Spring set of 11 talks for £25,
or just the Spring set of 6 talks for £14.

Visitors pay £6 per talk, but any relevant visitor fees are capped at the price of membership.

Membership tickets are transferable!!

If you are unable to attend a meeting, you are encouraged to let a friend use your ticket.
